About Karilyn
What sets me apart is my background as a graduate Speech-Language Pathology clinician. In addition to working as a tutor and substitute teacher, I have extensive experience helping children and adults strengthen reading, writing, language, executive functioning, and communication skills. My training allows me to recognize underlying language and learning challenges that may impact academic success, enabling me to provide targeted, individualized support beyond traditional tutoring.

My goal as a tutor is to help students build confidence and become independent learners. I tailor each lesson to the student's individual learning style, strengths, and goals, using engaging, evidence-based strategies that make challenging concepts easier to understand. Rather than simply completing homework, I focus on teaching skills and strategies students can apply independently. A typical lesson begins with reviewing previous material and identifying goals for the session. We then work through new concepts together using guided practice, interactive activities, and immediate feedback. I end each session by reviewing key takeaways and providing suggestions for continued success. I work with students from elementary school through college. I offer tutoring in reading, writing, grammar, phonics, study skills, SAT/ACT Reading and Writing, and undergraduate Communication Sciences and Disorders coursework. I also have experience supporting students with ADHD, autism, language disorders, and other learning differences through individualized instruction.
