About Sian

I have always been passionate about music and performing; I took violin and piano lessons as a young child, and started taking singing lessons at age 11. I spent as much time as possible onstage singing, acting, and dancing and it feels meant-to-be that I am now working in the performance industry. The passion and joy of performing that I feel, is what I wish to instil in my students.

I have performed with various opera companies in the UK, including Mid Wales Opera, West Green House Opera and Hampstead Garden Opera, and continue to do so on a regular basis. My most performance was as Apparition/1st soprano in Mid Wales Opera’s tour of Macbeth, and my next performance is as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel with Opera in a Box! My experience as a performer is invaluable in my teaching, as I can truly empathise with my students as they struggle to learn new music, wrestle with tricky technical moments, and dig into the meaning behind their songs. I’ve not only been there, I am currently there, and I can show you exactly what I do to work through it!

Alongside performing, I have been teaching 1-1 singing lessons for 3 years. I have experience entering students to the ABRSM and Trinity exams boards, but am also familiar with other boards such as VCM and LCM. I have taught students from age 7-18 and a range of abilities. I have coached students through learning and performing leading roles in musicals, through GCSE and A level performances, through singing exams, through auditions, and so much more. I can support you with any of these things, or with simply singing for the love of it!

I really believe in the power of music education for everyone, of all ages and abilities. Not only for creating the highest quality musicians and performances, but also for the mental health benefits and as a wonderful creative outlet.

About the lesson

With both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Vocal Performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and 3 years of 1-1 teaching experience, I am a qualified and capable singing teacher. I believe in giving my students a fun and creative space to learn and explore their musical talents whilst building confidence and a love of music.

I am confident with teaching a range of styles including classical, musical theatre, and pop, with a strong focus on healthy vocal technique so that your voice has the stamina it needs to get you through any singing situations. Whether that be singing a leading role in a musical, taking a singing exam, or giving a concert in your shower! We will focus on building healthy vocal technique, without stripping you of your vocal style and uniqueness.

I also focus heavily on dramatic interpretation and communication of songs. I encourage all my students to think about the meaning behind the songs they sing and how they can express this through their singing and body language.

In singing lessons with me, you can expect a friendly and supportive environment where you can have fun and be creative. Together we will develop a healthy vocal technique, explore and expand your knowledge of repertoire, and develop your musical and dramatic expression. We can work towards an exam, performance, audition, or just simply focus on improving your abilities for the joy of it!

Details

I charge £18 for half an hour, £25 for 45 minutes, and £30 for an hour. This is because the admin time for me is the same whether I teach you for 30 minutes or an hour, and I try take this into consideration in my pricing.

I suggest half hour lessons for beginner students, and 45 minutes to 1 hour for intermediate and advanced students.
