About Shelley
My life long passions are literature and theatre. I studied English literature at Yale University, and went on to be the Director of the renowned Poetry Center of the 92nd Street Y in New York City. There I presented such poets, playwrights and novelists as Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams, William Styron, Ted Hughes, Harold Pinter, Stephen Sondheim, and so many others. I have worked closely with playwrights to help them prepare their plays for production. I have two Master's degrees from St. John's College (one in Western and one in Eastern classics) -- a remarkable school that emphasizes close reading and deep conversation, and trains their students to write original and thought-provoking essays.

I work with people who are interested in improving their writing skills, who need help developing their ideas, who would benefit from in depth conversation about literature and philosophy. I work closely with high school and college students on essays and/or prepping for oral exams. My approach is personal and engaging.
