About Lisa
Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile! My name is Lisa Kirkey, and I am a certified Special Education Teacher (M.Ed.) with years of experience helping students reach their academic and personal goals. I hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education and a California Teaching Credential, with added authorizations in Autism and English Learner instruction. I have had the privilege of working with students across a wide range of learning profiles and grade levels. My teaching philosophy is rooted in patience, structure, and individualized support. I believe every student is capable of success when provided with the right tools, strategies, and encouragement. Whether I am supporting a student with an IEP or helping a learner build academic confidence, my goal is always to make learning accessible, meaningful, and enjoyable. Families and students can trust that I bring professionalism, organization, and empathy to every session. I take great pride in maintaining open communication with parents, setting clear and achievable goals, and celebrating student growth every step of the way. You can feel confident knowing your child will be supported by a dedicated educator who is deeply committed to their success and well-being.

About Me I’m a compassionate and experienced Special Education Teacher and tutor with a strong commitment to helping students reach their full potential. I specialize in supporting learners with diverse needs by creating individualized lessons that bridge academic and developmental gaps. My approach is hands-on, encouraging, and highly adaptable—focused on building confidence as much as content mastery. My Teaching Approach Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to their specific strengths, challenges, and goals. My teaching combines: Differentiated instruction to adapt lessons to each learner’s pace and level. Multisensory strategies (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) to keep students engaged and motivated. Positive behavioral supports to create a safe, calm learning space. Data-driven instruction that tracks progress and celebrates growth along the way. My ultimate goal is to help students feel successful, independent, and excited about learning. A Typical Lesson A session with me usually includes: A quick check-in or review of previous material. Introduction of a clear learning goal for the session. Step-by-step modeling and guided practice. Independent work with support and feedback. A short reflection and goal-setting for next time. Each lesson is interactive, structured, and encouraging—designed to build both skills and confidence. What Sets Me Apart Certified Special Education Teacher (M.Ed., Autism Authorization) Deep experience with IEPs, accommodations, and inclusive learning strategies Skilled in behavioral intervention and executive functioning support Empathetic, organized, and passionate about student growth Strong collaboration with parents and school teams Who I Work With I work with: Elementary and middle school students (K–8) Students with IEPs or learning differences (Autism, ADHD, SLD, processing disorders, etc.) General education students needing extra academic support or enrichment Students developing executive functioning and study skills
Recommendations

Lisa and I are colleagues working in special education. She is an excellent co-teaching partner who provides support to all the students in her classes. This is provided in the form of academic, behavioral, and functional support so that students can demonstrate their best overall performance at school. She can implement appropriate accommodations for all the assignments assigned to students and break down/chunk assignments so that it is more manageable for them.
