About Alex

I am a Brooklyn-based jazz guitarist and have worked with Big Gigantic, Veronica Swift, and The Colorado Symphony, as well as performances at the Kennedy Center and NPR’s Tiny Desk series. I have a degree in Jazz Guitar with an emphasis in Classical Guitar from the University of Colorado Boulder.
I served as a guest artist in the guitar department at Denver School of the Arts for 5 years. I helped with one on one coaching, masterclasses for middle and high schoolers on a myriad of topics, taught lessons focusing on Classical, Jazz, and Pop styles, as well as writing arrangements and transcribing for student groups.
I have also taught regularly at Kent Denver, Dawson School, and as a guest clinician at both CU Boulder and the University of Wyoming. Additionally, I have been part of the faculty at the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts, working with adult and youth combos. I have curated and taught group Jazz Guitar classes for The Gift of Jazz. With the Denver Municipal Band, I worked with bands and students at schools across the Denver Metro area. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Colorado Boulder.

About the lesson

I provide lessons in Rock, Classical, Jazz, and Pop styles, as well as writing arrangements and transcribing for students.
I have worked with many students of many levels and ages. My teaching style focuses on learning songs. While theory and music reading are important if you want to learn them, I find that having a musical context for them rather than a series of non musical exercises gives a student a better experience and gets them performing faster. I will show you how to learn. I don't just want to give you the answers, I want to help you find them yourself.
