About Michael

I'm a recent graduate of the RNCM in Manchester where I completed a master's degree. I studied there for 2 years under renowned guitarist Craig Ogden. Previously I had 3 years with Tim Pells (English Guitar Quartet) in Colchester for undergrad. I also have several years of experience with various other styles including blues, rock and country. More recently I have been teaching myself Gypsy Jazz and have been experimenting with a lot of ideas of how to go about relearning an instrument in a completely different genre.

About the lesson

My teaching method reflects my own experiences in education, I've had several great teachers that were extremely positive, thorough and focused on an individual's strengths. I place a lot of emphasis on fretboard geography and different techniques to open up many different musical options and get the most out of the instrument. I also strive to take any fears out of approaching the instrument and show it's not as daunting as it may appear. I will offer several alternative solutions to a problem or struggle as it surfaces and explain each one; this way each student gets a method for progression that's specifically tailored to them.

Michael has helped me overcome many technical challenges when approaching difficult passages of the guitar music I want to play. He is very articulate when explaining concepts of guitar playing to students such as myself.

His enthusiasm for guitar is clear to see not only in lessons but in concert too. His wish to make others succeed at guitar is what makes his lessons inspiring and enjoyable.
