About Eli
Hello! I am Eli GwinnLandry, a rising sophomore at Harvard College. I study History and Government at Harvard, so naturally, I love to write. Beyond that, however, I also love tutoring English! I was a peer writing tutor throughout high school, and I plan on tutoring writing at Harvard when I return to campus in the fall.
I have always tried to make my tutoring sessions relaxed, meaningful, and even fun, because I recognize that academic work thrives when students are truly passionate about the things that they are studying. However, I value hard work and integrity above all else, and I try to share those values with my students as much as possible when I teach.
Moreover, I have been a camp counselor for three years, so I absolutely love to work with younger students! My experience as a camp counselor taught me a lot about patience, empathy, and balancing work with play; I aim to incorporate those same values into my teaching style.
Some of my favorite things to teach are types of essay structure, grammar (specifically tricky rules like parallelism), and essay revision techniques. At the end of the day, however, I love to help tutor students in any concepts related to English --do not hesitate to reach out if interested!

I believe that both learning to write and understanding how to interpret writing is fundamental to any academic and personal pursuit, because the process of writing and reading is crucial to the process of thinking. I aim to lead engaging lessons in which I do not complete work for my students, but rather equip my students with the literary tools needed to think critically and write effectively on their own. I find that writing and reading are best done in tandem with dialogue, so having discussions with my students about the content they are trying to work through during a tutoring session is vital to my pedagogy. Whether we are doing SAT/ACT prep, working on an essay, or learning new grammatical concepts, my main goal in tutoring is to help build my students' intellectual capacities until they arrive at a place where they can not only excel in reading, interpreting texts, and revising, but also clearly explain their thought processes to me.
