About Heather

Heather Heather is a passionate violin, voice, and beginner piano teacher with ten years of teaching experience. A native of South Carolina, she earned her degree in Violin Performance from the University of South Carolina with an additional emphasis in classical voice. Heather has performed with numerous orchestras in such as the Santa Cruz Symphony, San Francisco Academy Orchestra, South Carolina Philharmonic, Greenville Symphony, Augusta Symphony, Rock Hill Symphony, Long Bay Symphony, Aiken Symphony, North Charleston Pops, and others. She performed as a soloist with the touring show Violins of Hope and, during college, played in masterclasses for violinists such as David Kim, Angelo Xiang-Yu, and Daniel Chong. Her chamber groups have performed in masterclasses with the Parker Quartet and Verona String Quartet, and she is an alumna of the Brevard Music Center summer music festival.

As a teacher, Heather is experienced at working with students of all ages and skill levels, and loves to help students grow. She has worked in orchestra settings in schools, taught at the University of South Carolina String Project, and assisted with many music summer camps and youth orchestra programs. She has been privately teaching since 2015 and her students have achieved leadership positions in youth, regional, and state orchestras and placement in various choirs.

When she is not playing or teaching violin, Heather enjoys the art of singing. She is an accomplished choral musician who also works with children’s choirs, leading her choral students to perform alongside pit orchestra at live productions of The Nutcracker ballet. She sang in the premiere of Michael Abels’ At War With Ourselves alongside the Kronos String Quartet, and she has worked extensively as a cantor in sacred music settings. While living in the Bay Area, she sang in the choir at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in San Francisco and worked as assistant music director at St. Veronica's South San Francisco.

In Seattle, Heather played for two seasons as principal second violin of Northwest Symphony Orchestra and worked extensively a violinist and singer around the area while also coaching violin at high schools and building a private studio of piano, voice, and string students.

Heather deeply believes in every child’s ability to succeed in music when they are taught commitment, determination, and daily devotion to building their abilities. She is an enthusiastic and encouraging teacher who is excited to guide students in their musical growth, and she believes all children are capable of enjoying musical learning.

About the lesson

Heather's lessons are friendly for students of all skill levels. She focuses on building a strong technical foundation while teaching pieces students enjoy. She has helped many students prepare for auditions and exams, and she also loves helping students learn about music for the first time. She is enthusiastic about helping students achieve the sound they want.
