About Marina

I believe that teaching languages also entails passing down the “right” nuances to the students.

I grew up adapting to the native ways of Western cultures and Japanese cultures. In English, it is said that people use roughly 5000 different words maximum in their lifetime on a daily basis (out of approximately 180,000 words that exist), while in Japanese, around 50,000 words are used on a daily basis (out of approximately 500,000 words that exist). This means that there are countless words in English that cannot be directly translated and vice versa.

With my speaking lessons, what I value the most is the nuances of each sentence or word. For example, the phrase “I love you” in English can only be expressed through that exact expression in order for the meaning to be directly communicated.

In Japanese or Latin-based languages such as Spanish, one can use - in Spanish - “Te amo” or “Te quiero” which has slightly different meanings and weigh a little differently. Similarly in Japanese, there is “愛してる (Aishiteru),” and “好き (suki).” When reading or listening to any translated sentences, it is often the case that many of us come across incorrect translation in terms of nuances.

I value the significance of how the other party receives words and recognizes the meaning of what is being said accurately. So for our lessons, what each individual “feels” during conversations, with what they are hearing and what they are saying, is something I will explain in a VERY real way so that you can truly get the nuances of every word and phrase / sentences you learn in our sessions!
