About Sarah
Since I was a kid, I always loved writing. I wrote my first novel when I was 11 (though looking back, it was really more of a spiral notebook full of chicken-scratch). In college, I found my passion for academic writing and maintained my love of creative writing as I studied communication, gender studies, and creative writing.
After college I went on to work in student affairs/higher education, first within the New York SUNY system (housing, new student orientation), then at Yale University (Summer Springboard high school transition program), and finally at The George Washington University where I serve in my current position as an Academic Advisor.
My work in higher education has allowed me to remain familiar with some of the ins and outs of college admissions, as I have worked closely with incoming students and admissions offices.
I am confident assisting with many different writing categories including but not limited to college admissions essays, APA and MLA-style research papers, cover letters, fiction and non-fiction creative pieces, scholarship essays, and personal statements.

I have experience tutoring students of all ages, from elementary/middle schoolers to non-traditional college students. My focus is on building your confidence and finding your voice as a writer while remaining within the guidelines of the assignment.
A typical lesson with me could include the following:
-Reviewing the task/assignment and breaking it down into easy-to-understand concepts
-Mapping out your essay or writing project/assignment in a way that guides you through the process. This can alleviate stress and, while it may seem like an additional step, can expedite the process.
-Reviewing any completed material and workshopping it to reach its full potential.
-Finding your writing voice and keeping the content true to you!
