About Jessica
I am a British Mexican dual national, but grew up in the UK.
I was passionate about the arts from an early age and this took me to study Fashion Design at Kingston University, London (a top UK fashion school).
I graduated in 2008 with the highest First Class Honours, winning 'Graduate of the Year' for the entire Design School and was nominated for various national prizes. I was considered very innovative in my conceptualisation and approach to design.
Now I've been in the fashion industry for almost 16 years, having started at a luxury Japanese brand based in Milan, Italy. I was then headhunted to work at Burberry in London and later I worked for Zara in Spain. Therefore I have an understanding of all levels of the fashion industry.
I have freelanced over the past 10 years for global clients, consulting on concept and design for start-up brands and luxury hotels (uniform).
I now have a slow and ethical fashion start-up working with artisans in the south of Mexico. This is my passion project.
Perhaps one of my most rewarding jobs has been teaching fashion design to complete novices and university students!

What we may cover in our lessons–
CONCEPT:
Authentic research, creation of strong visual and conceptual narratives, and mood boards. Fabric and color palettes.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT:
Translating strong concept to design ideas, 3D experimentation with materials, draping, collage work, digital/photography work, free-flow sketching, croquis drawing. Fine-tuning designs with understanding of construction.
TECHNICAL DESIGN:
Professional technical drawings (digital), specifications and tech packs.
PORTFOLIO:
Presentation and composition of a well balanced portfolio. Exploring illustration styles.
THEORY:
The role of a fashion designer. The different jobs in the fashion industry. The processes and supply chain. Sustainability topics.

CLASS DURATION:
Minimum– 1 hour, Maximum– 2 hours, depending on your needs and wishes.
MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
I have taught fashion design to degree students at Mexico’s top creative university CENTRO. I have also taught diploma and novice level at a certified fashion school in Mexico City.

PLEASE NOTE: I do not cover pattern cutting and grading (size charts). You may be required to buy materials, such as paper, pencils, pens and basic fabrics.
