About Helen
I am a highly skilled teacher with over 20 years' experience in both the state and private sector, including as a Head of Languages. I have spent the majority of my career preparing students for Common Entrance, GCSE and A'level examinations. I am particularly adept at helping students to improve their speaking and writing skills in order to achieve their desired grades. I have a vast bank of resources and will adapt and fine-tune these for every student's individual needs.
Whilst the majority of my experience is with exam classes, I have also spent some time teaching French in Primary Schools (from Nursery to Year 6). I am therefore equally comfortable offering sessions for younger children and I love using stories, songs and creativity to inspire a love of languages. These sessions are ideal for homeschooling communities or simply those who wish their younger children to learn French in a fun and interactive way.
Overall I am kind and patient with a friendly and engaging approach. My aim is to motivate and make learning French fun and relevant. I have spent years inspiring young people in the classroom with outstanding results and many of my former students have gone on to study languages at university.

Working KS4 and KS5 students:
I offer one-to-one online or face to face tuition for Common Entrance, GCSE, iGCSE and A'level.
I work to identify and fill any gaps in a student's knowledge as well as helping them to build confidence in a supportive and friendly way. We will look at specific exam techniques for all four skill areas (speaking, listening, reading and writing), as well as developing overall accuracy and fluency with targeted activities. I work with patience and humour to make lessons as engaging as possible.
Working with younger students:
I offer one-to-one or group sessions for primary aged children. I can offer online sessions for one or two children and face to face for individuals or larger groups. These sessions are great for homeschoolers who want their younger children to have a fun and dynamic experience of language learning with a qualified and experienced teacher. I teach through story, songs and creative play.
Working with adults:
I also offer one-to-one sessions online to adults who wish to improve their spoken French and understanding of French grammar. The fact that I am a native English speaker who has learnt to speak French fluently and lived in France means I can be understanding and supportive of the process. I will tailor my lessons to suit your needs and level and boost your confidence!
