About Mieke
I have recently completed by BA degree in International Studies, majoring in Political Science and History. At the moment I am studying towards my BA honours in Heritage Studies. I decided to take on this degree because I have such a love for art and I want to go into the field of curation. At grade 12 I obtained a 99% for Visual Arts, with my chosen medium being printmaking.
I still enjoy learning about art and that is why I enjoy tutoring learners in art theory, because I can share my knowledge with them.

I aim to create a comfortable work environment, but to still work hard with a proper work ethic. I have many years of tutoring experience, and I have found what works best is to have a strong relationship with the learners. But they still need to respect me as a teacher and I respect them as a learner. I am proficient in both Afrikaans and English. I prepare for each lesson, and tell the students beforehand what we will be discussing so that they can also do the necessary preparations to see what they understand and what not (it is good to show up with questions!). We discuss topics together and I focus on having the learners engage and contribute in the lesson as well. At the end I would sometimes give them some homework or ask that they make a summary of a certain section, especially for long term preparation for tests and exams. When tests and exams come closer, we will pay attention to revision and practicing potential questions for the assessments. I mostly tutor art theory for learners in grade 10, 11 and 12.
