About Tom
On a trip to France, I found my great-great-grandfather’s name on the Thiepval Memorial—one of the 72,000 missing from the Somme. Seeing it carved in stone made the First World War feel immediate, not distant. That’s when history stopped being just a subject for me; it became personal. I teach because I want you to have moments like that too—when the past suddenly matters because it connects to you, your family, or the world you live in.
