About Ollie
1st Class history graduate from Newcastle University with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for helping students understand the past and succeed in their exams.
During my degree I developed advanced research, analytical and essay-writing skills while studying a wide range of historical periods and themes. My dissertation focused on Escape and Evasion in the Second World War, examining how Allied airmen who were shot down over occupied Europe escaped capture through underground resistance networks. This research required analysing primary accounts, evaluating historical interpretations, and constructing clear, evidence-based arguments — the same academic skills students need to succeed in GCSE and A-Level History.
Before tutoring, I worked in sales and am currently taking a sabbatical from my sales career. That experience strengthened my communication skills and my ability to explain complex ideas clearly and persuasively. These skills translate directly into tutoring, where clarity, structure and engagement are essential for helping students build confidence and improve their performance.
I am passionate about teaching history because it helps students understand the broader patterns that shape the world today, particularly how political, social and economic trends often repeat across time. At the same time, studying history develops valuable lifelong skills such as critical thinking, argument construction and effective communication — abilities that are useful not only for exams but also later in professional and corporate environments.
I also recognise that history in traditional classroom settings can sometimes feel dry or overly focused on memorisation. One of my aims as a tutor is to bring the subject to life, showing students how fascinating, dramatic and relevant historical events really are, while still helping them master the analytical and essay-writing skills needed for top grades.
My goal as a tutor is to help students build confidence in their knowledge, develop strong historical arguments, and gain a genuine appreciation for the importance of history in understanding both the past and the modern world.

My Approach to Tutoring
I provide tutoring for GCSE and A-Level History, helping students improve their exam technique, essay writing, and source analysis in order to achieve higher grades.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and combine three elements: strengthening historical knowledge, analysing primary and secondary sources, and practising exam-style questions and essay structure. I focus on helping students build clear arguments, evaluate historical interpretations, and manage exam time effectively.
For GCSE History, students usually study a thematic study (such as Crime and Punishment or Medicine in Britain), a British depth study (for example Elizabethan England), a period study such as the Cold War, and a modern depth study such as Nazi Germany. I tailor lessons to the requirements of major exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR.
At A-Level, I support students with advanced essay writing, historiography, and source evaluation, helping them develop strong historical arguments and analytical skills.
I graduated in History from Newcastle University. My lessons are designed for GCSE and A-Level students (ages 14–18) who want to improve their understanding of history and perform better in exams.
