About Reuben
Hi, I'm Reuben! I’m a second-year History student at Durham University, who previously studied at West Bridgford School. I achieved an A* in History and Law at A Level, and an A in Economics (all three AQA). I recently won Durham’s Edward Allen Prize, awarded for achieving the highest aggregate performance in Preliminary Honours out of the 2024/25 first-year History cohort (around 200-250 students!). I’m adept at tutoring A Level Law, for which I have made Quizlet sets on most of the course (Criminal, Tort and Contract- I didn't do Human Rights at A Level so I'm yet to make sets on it). My law teacher was so impressed that I passed on all my Quizlet sets to him! I’m very well-acquainted with A Level Law exam technique, and seamlessly blend both content revision and exam technique mastery together in my lessons.

- My teaching methodology is centred around helping students master exam technique while simultaneously improving their grasp of content. For law in particular, given the innumerable important cases, content knowledge is vital to consistently write top band answers! Regular content revision - for instance, asking students what cases or legislation they could use to support a point - is interwoven into every exam question we work through together, bolstering the student's recall skills. - My learning environment is relaxed and encouraging. A calm mind is conducive to coherent thinking, so I do my best to ensure my students don't feel unduly pressured. They are given all the time they need to answer questions and think through matters in-depth, yet given gentle nudges when required. - I particularly focus on helping students to understand what the examiner wants from their answers and how they can attain this. I do this through giving students a broad set of general 'rules' that they can apply to any exam question (how to structure their time when answering a 30-marker, for instance). I also use mark schemes to provide clear examples when necessary. - A typical session will be around an hour, though I have experience with two hour sessions as well. - I have tutored A Level Law and History in the past, both in person and through Microsoft Teams. For both, I have made tailored online revision materials (e.g. Quizlet sets) for my students to use, which they have found very helpful. - My lessons are for GCSE and A Level Law students.

Reuben tutored me for two years and was absolutely pivotal in allowing me to achieve top grades in A-level history. Reuben’s explanations were always clear and easy to follow which made the subject so much more manageable. I found this especially valuable as I was so overwhelmed by how much content there was for A-level history at the start of the course! I would absolutely recommend Reuben to anyone looking for a History tutor who is knowledgeable, encouraging and easy to learn from.
Reuben tutored my daughter in her A-level History course last year and was truly exceptional from start to finish. Reuben’s sessions were tailored to her specific needs and his influence was valuable and genuinely transformative. Reuben’s ability to make my daughter confident in her previously worst subject is a testament to his warm and compassionate nature. With apparent ease, he created a confident student who achieved top grades. Any student would be lucky to have him in their corner.
Reuben is a superb tutor, he has helped me throughout my alevels tremendously. He is very intelligent, committed and explains tricky concepts clearly with incredible patience for my silly questions! Additionally, he is really friendly and down to earth person making him the ideal tutor.
