About Drew
My professional background is in newspaper journalism, with almost 30 years experience as a reporter and editor. I have graduate degrees in both history and linguistics. I speak German, French and Esperanto, and have taught English (Praxis qualified) and history online for more than two years. My hobbies include playing music, tai chi, writing and tea. Lessons with me are both fun and rigorous. I believe the best way to understand history is to find and and create stories, putting yourself in the position of the people who experienced events as they happened. To do that, we have to build a context that includes culture, politics, economics, religion, geography and more. It all fits together! Lessons are based on sources, whether primary documents, texts or even fiction, which we then fit into the big picture. Then we can build coherent, insightful responses to e.g. test prompts.
