About Gabriel

I have a background in law but a few years ago I realized that what made me the happiest, and what I was in fact better at, was my then part-time, night-time, weekend side-job: being an educator. Currently, I'm working and preparing myself to make this my full-time occupation.

My experience in education includes being a university and college lecturer, language center teacher, translator and private tutor in Australia, Colombia and China. However, I've been an English and Spanish private tutor since I was a teenager and I've carried this activity throughout my life.

I have prepared students of all ages for either general conversational skills acquisition or for specific language proficiency exams for both English and Spanish. Most of my experience so far has been with young adults who are looking to improve from basic or intermediate to more advanced levels of language skill.

I have taught students from Australia, New Zealand, United States, South Korea, China, and Colombia.

I believe I can help the student who actively wants to learn to speak.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on general conversational language skills with particular focus on speaking and listening. We progress further into reading and writing as the student requires and depending on their desired outcomes with learning a language (general, academic, professional). My lessons last for 60 minutes.

The overall approach is to follow the natural acquisition of our native language as we grow up: first, we listen and understand words; then, we learn to reproduce them by speaking them; later on, we are taught how to interpret symbols in order to read them; and finally we learn the skill to reproduce these symbols by writing them.

I am a native Spanish speaker and have worked as a language tutor (English and Spanish), teacher and instructor for over 12 years. I hold a B.A. and a master's degree in international law and security from Glasgow University.

I have worked with students from all age groups and proficiency levels from teenagers to adults. However, I specialize in preparing adults who have a basic or intermediate level and wish to progress to more advanced knowledge of the language.
