About Andrew
Andrew Carroll holds a BA (Hons.) and MA in Visual Arts Practice, from the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) Dun Laoghaire (2008, 2010). Previous to studying art, he studied architecture and design. He was a recipient of an Arts Council Bursary for his project 'Silhoutopia' (2009). He has exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibition on two occasions (2011 and 2014), and other shows include 'Space_Scope' (a solo exhibition at the Mill Theatre, Dundrum in 2011), 'Idionumina' (an exhibition exploring alternative spaces for the display of contemporary art, curated by Maria Tanner and Deirdre Southey, Graignamanagh 2012), Cork Photo Festival of Photography (2016 and 2018), the Lavit Gallery Members Exhibition (2018, 2019 and 2021), and the Backwater Artist’s Network exhibition 'A Moment Before Lockdown' (2020). He co-curated 'Remaining Places' with Backwater director Elaine Coakley at Fota House in 2022, a show comprised of work from the Backwater Artists Network. Recent shows have included 'New Reality: Contemporary Collage in Ireland' (Cork 2022 and Dublin 2023), 'Hand of Man' (Backwater Artists Studios 2023, curated by Stella Kramer) and 'Travels in Hyperreality' (at Crane Visual 2023, curated by Dermot Browne), 'Deep Time' (Spike Island, 2024) as part of the Cork Harbour Festival, and 'FEEDBACK' (LHQ Gallery, 2024), curated by Roisin Foley. He also writes poetry.

My teaching methodology is all about talking a certain amount, demonstrating techniques and skills a lot more, and getting you to try for yourself (with guidance) just as much.
I would typically teach for an hour, but if you required a 'double class', we would take a break for 15 minutes and then resume for another 45 mins.
I have taught art and design in one form or another since 2005. I have been a teacher at Trinity Arts Workshop, for Dublin City Education and Training Board, and I also ran my own bijou art school for 6 years.
These lessons are for those preparing to apply to study art or design (including architecture) at 3rd Level.
