About Ash
I’ve been passionately doing private tutoring for about 5 years now. You would catching me walking about exploring the city, reading or eating a tub of peanut butter if I’m not helping other humans.
I moved to Australia when I was 14 from Dubai, U.A.E. I was born to Sri Lankan parents and so I’d like to think that I come from a pretty culturally diverse background. This helps me provide a more comfortable tutoring experience knowing that Melbourne is a really culturally diverse city.
English has been such a great tool and asset in helping me adjust within different cultures and countries and so I took it up on myself to make it a personal mission of mine to be able to provide that for other individuals too.
It gives me great joy in being a part of someone’s journey into English and literature as I remember my tutors being a great part of mine.

I’ve helped many students with essays, analysing literature and even with understanding important historical events.
I understand that studying is not limited to any age group and that my students vary in terms of education qualifications they may have and seek. Some of my past pupils range from VCE students, fellow university students and even graduates who just needed a little bit of a refresher. I treat all equally and with respect.
Being a student myself gives me a hands on experience of how our education systems are ever changing. Lots of trial an error in my own life and time in terms of studying have allowed me to find methods that do work, so I often apply these in my tutoring classes.
I learnt English through watching English movies, tv shows, and trying to read short stories even if my little mind couldn’t understand what it meant.
Every so often I watch little interactive videos with students and use online interactive games to make their learning experience as fun and memorable as possible!
And homework I give will often involve binge watching movies (with subtitles, Ofcourse! ) for my none native English speaking students.
I’m a firm believer that there are a lot of different ways students learn and so it’s important for me to communicate with each student individually prior to our lessons in order for me to understand how to approach them better.
