About Zehna
My passion for teaching is rooted not only in my academic interests, but also in my own experience as a student.
Growing up, I often felt defined by the way ability was perceived in the classroom. I vividly remember classrooms where students were informally separated into the “bright” table and the “less able” table. At a young age, this became a visual representation of my own perceived ability, and over time it began to shape my confidence. I became the student who rarely raised her hand, doubted her own ideas and underestimated her potential.
Everything changed when I discovered the power of communication. Through English, debate and public speaking, I realised that confidence is not an innate quality—it is a skill that can be developed. As I learned to analyse ideas, construct arguments and express myself with conviction, I began to see myself differently.
That transformation culminated in delivering a speech on this very experience at the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge, where I became a regional finalist and spoke before an audience of more than 200 people. Standing on that stage was more than a personal achievement; it represented the journey from a quiet student who questioned her own ability to someone who could speak with confidence and purpose.
This experience fundamentally shaped my philosophy as a tutor. Academic success matters, but so does the confidence to ask questions, voice opinions and believe in your own ability to learn. I want my students to develop not only stronger academic skills, but also the self-belief to recognise their own potential.
I believe teachers and mentors have a profound influence on how young people see themselves. The encouragement, expectations and opportunities they provide can shape a student’s confidence just as much as their academic progress. My aim is to create a learning environment where every student feels challenged, supported and genuinely capable of succeeding.

My lessons are built on the belief that strong communication is one of the most valuable skills a student can develop. Whether teaching English Language or Oratory (Public Speaking & Debate), my aim is to help students become confident communicators, analytical thinkers and develop emotional intelligence—skills that support academic success and remain valuable throughout life.
Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. After identifying their strengths, areas for development and goals, I create a structured programme that balances clear instruction, guided practice and regular feedback. Lessons are designed to build confidence steadily while providing students with the knowledge and techniques needed to make measurable progress.
English Language
English Language lessons focus on developing strong reading, writing and analytical skills. Students learn how to analyse fiction and non-fiction texts effectively, write with clarity and precision, strengthen their grammar and vocabulary, and adapt their writing for different audiences and purposes. Particular attention is given to essay structure, exam technique and the development of thoughtful, well-supported responses.
Oratory (Public Speaking & Debate)
My Oratory tuition develops the skills needed to communicate ideas with confidence and purpose. Drawing upon my experience as a national-level debater, students learn how to construct persuasive arguments, think critically, organise speeches, respond to challenges, and deliver presentations with clarity and confidence. Lessons also strengthen listening, reasoning and problem-solving skills, preparing students for interviews, presentations, leadership opportunities, competitions and future academic or professional settings.
Every lesson is carefully planned to be engaging, supportive and appropriately challenging. My goal is not only to improve academic performance, but to equip students with the confidence, communication skills and critical thinking abilities that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.
