About Ludivine
I have been tutoring for about 7 years now (before I arrived at university).
For a long time, I tough primary school children (ages 7-11). however, I did not only specialise in French, I would tutor them in every subject and throughout the year.
Now I tutor more mature students, some studying at university, others who want to perfect their professional vocabulary.

Hello,
My name is Ludivine. I am originally French and have been studying in the UK for 5 years now.
I study Modern and Medieval Languages at the University of Cambridge and specialise in Russian and Portuguese.
Learning languages is hard, and French counts as one of the most difficult ones. I do not believe in one specific method of teaching languages that fits all. Every student is different and should be dealt with in a very personal way. However, if I was to give a rough outline of what I have done in that past few years with a few students I would say:
1) Listening to the language is key for the development of sound intuition - analysing audiovisual material and learning to talk about it is a cornerstone of my approach.
2) Dictation by a native speaker - here again, this will allow the student to identify words and put them on paper. Here the level of French does not matter, it is all about sound recognition.
3) Reading out loud - this is crucial as most traditional language teaching focuses too much on the writing skills and very little on the oral skills. Both are key to learning languages and cannot produce a god result without one another.
4) Short and repetitive grammar exercises - I believe that grammar is a question of practice, and some of the most efficient ways I have found to learn and teach grammar is by quantity. This is a very satisfying method for the student as it offers long term results. As the exercises are quite difficult, it is important to keep them short and straight-forwards.
5) Finally, I will never correct the student straight away. Most of the time, the student knows the answer and it takes each and everyone their own time to find it. In languages patience is key!
