About Novy

Hi, I’m Novy. I’m originally from Indonesia and currently based in Perth. I’ve been learning and using Japanese for several years, including studying Japanese at university and spending time studying and living in Japan.

Japanese has been a big part of both my studies and my professional life. I’ve worked with Japanese for years in a corporate environment, so I’ve had plenty of experience using Japanese beyond the classroom, including in professional communication and business situations.

I want to teach Japanese because I know from my own experience that learning a language can feel overwhelming at first. There are plenty of things that textbooks don’t explain very well, especially when it comes to actually having a conversation or understanding why Japanese is used in a certain way.

I’d like to make that process a little easier and more enjoyable. Whether you’re starting from zero, planning a trip to Japan, interested in Japanese culture, or want to become more confident using Japanese at work, I want my lessons to be a place where you can ask questions, make mistakes, and gradually become more comfortable using the language.

I’m particularly happy to work with beginners and intermediate learners, and I’ll always try to make the lessons feel practical and relevant to you.

About the lesson

My lessons are relaxed and adapted to each student. I don’t want Japanese to feel like memorizing a textbook, so I focus on helping you understand how the language is actually used in everyday situations.

We can focus on conversation, grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing, or Japanese for travel, depending on what you want to achieve. I also like using examples and topics that are relevant to you, so lessons feel less like a classroom exercise.

I have studied Japanese at university and spent time studying and living in Japan. I also have years of professional experience working with Japanese in a corporate environment, so I’m familiar with both everyday Japanese and the more formal language used in business settings.

As someone who has learned Japanese myself, I understand that some parts of the language can be confusing. I’m happy to explain things in a simple way and share practical tips that helped me along the way.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are suitable for beginners to intermediate learners. Whether you’re learning Japanese for travel, personal interest, conversation, or work, we can adjust the pace and content around your goals.

You don’t need to be "good enough" before starting. We can start from wherever you are and build from there. :D
