About Alexi
I am a graduate of the University of Queensland who has majored in Japanese at the highest level which UQ offers in their Japanese course. I have also attained an N1 certification in the JLPT, and I am a half Japanese native of Kyoto who has extensive knowledge of both the culture and language of Japan. I have experience tutoring both Japanese and English in Japan.

I believe that learning a language different to one's own native tongue is something that can be done by everybody, but I also believe that the way in which the language is passed on from teacher to student has an enormous amount of influence on both how quickly the student grasps the new language, but also how effectively they are able to make use of the language in real life situations.
This is the crux of language teaching for me - how effectively will students, once having left the classroom, be able to actually use the knowledge they have acquired and translate that into useful interaction with the world?
This is the main focus in my teaching. Although it is important to have a fundamental understanding of grammar structures and vocabulary, my aim is to give you the tools you need so that you can construct your own language in any given context in a way that is comfortable and useful for you.
We will go through exercises and activities which will assist you in improvising effectively with the language - instead of having to refer rigidly to strict structures in language taught in the classroom, my teaching methodology will allow you to transition from your classroom learning to real life practical language use as smoothly as possible.
