About Anisa

I hold a BSc in International Politics (First Class) and an MSc in Public Policy (Merit) and work full-time in the Civil Service within the policy field (3 years). My academic background and professional experience have given me a strong foundation in Politics and related subjects, which I use to support my students in achieving their goals. My passion for education has led me to tutor for the past ten years, alongside mentoring and volunteering as part of my role’s inclusion and diversity initiatives.

At the undergraduate level, I tutor Politics and related disciplines, providing comprehensive support for assignments, dissertations, research skills, and structuring assessments. I also help students navigate and apply research methods effectively, offering targeted guidance on modules where I have expertise. During my undergraduate studies, I completed modules such as:

- Comparative Politics: Examining political institutions, democracy, and processes linking citizens and policymakers.
- American Politics: A deep dive into the U.S. political system and its institutions.
- Theories of International Relations: Understanding key theories and their application to global issues such as war, terrorism, and climate change.
- Research Methods: Developing analytical perspectives and techniques for designing research projects.
- Quantitative Political Science and Advanced Applied Quantitative Methods: Analysing political data and applying statistical methods to domestic and international politics.
Comparative Electoral Systems: Investigating how political institutions impact outcomes through single case studies and modern institutional theory.
- Public Policy Analysis: Exploring how governments design and evaluate public policy and how these vary across countries.
- I also studied modules on British/EU Politics, Modern Africa, Colonialism, European Union Politics, and National Security, to name a few.

If you’d like to know more about my studies or experience in specific areas, feel free to ask.

For my undergraduate dissertation, The Circumstances Under Which the UN Authorises the Use of Force Since 1991, I hypothesised that the UN Security Council is more likely to authorise force when the target state has a lower capacity to resist. To support this, I utilised a comprehensive UN Field Missions Database alongside conflict data from UCDP and the World Data Bank to create visual analyses. This research sharpened my skills in data analysis and research design, which I now use to guide my students.

For my postgraduate studies at King’s College London, I specialised in Public Policy and wrote my dissertation on An Analysis of Aid and Development in Sub-Saharan Africa. My modules included:

- The Policy Process
- Comparative Public Policy
- Evaluating Public Policy
- Gender, Politics, and Public Policy
- Political Economy

I also interned at the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership, producing literature reviews on gender, politics, and public policy topics that informed journal articles and a successful research proposal funded by UN Women. This experience further cemented my expertise in academic writing and research - skills I bring to my tutoring.

Whether you need help with academic fluency, essay structure, research methods, or understanding complex political concepts, I am here to help. My experience spans a wide range of modules and areas, so please reach out if you’re unsure whether I’ve studied something specific - I’d be happy to let you know.

I also tutor English Language and Literature at GCSE and A-level, as well as Maths at GCSE level. Across all these subjects, I have consistently helped students of varying abilities achieve strong results. If my profile resonates with what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to reach out - I’d love to help you succeed!

UNDERGRADUATE POLITICS - PROOFREADING

For undergraduate Politics, I provide a proofreading service that focuses on two essential aspects of academic writing: (1) English language clarity and (2) academic fluency.

- English Language Clarity: I help improve grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and overall readability which ensures your writing communicates ideas clearly and effectively - this is crucial for essay writing for professors who read large amounts of work on a regular basis.

- Academic Fluency: I focus on essay structure, flow, style, depth of critique (analysis), and referencing. Whether you’re working on a history essay, a political science analysis, or a research paper, I tailor my guidance to suit the specific requirements of your assignment.

My proofreading service includes:

- Reviewing plans or essays with detailed comments on best practices for academic writing.
- Enhancing essay flow by adding or adjusting sentences to improve coherence.
- Providing questions and prompts within the essay to encourage deeper critical thinking.
- Highlighting areas where more examples, case studies, or analysis would strengthen your argument.
- Tailoring essay structure based on the type of essay (e.g., comparative, cause-and-effect, analytical etc.). For research essays, I can guide you on using variables, operationalising them, and incorporating appropriate case studies depending on the essay’s purpose.

Benefits of My Service:

- Develop a clear and polished academic style that stands out.
- Gain detailed, actionable feedback to improve critical analysis and essay depth.
- Understand how to structure essays effectively for different formats and requirements.
- Build confidence in your writing and referencing skills, ensuring your work meets high academic standards.

PERSONAL STATEMENT DRAFTING (UNDERGRADUATE & POSTGRADUATE)

I offer structured support for drafting personal statements for undergraduate and postgraduate applications, including competitive courses such as Public Policy, Politics, International Relations, and related disciplines. My approach focuses on helping you present a clear, compelling, and well-evidenced narrative that reflects both your academic interests and your wider experiences.

I support students through the full drafting process, from initial idea generation to final refinement. This includes identifying strong academic motivations, shaping a coherent narrative, and ensuring that each paragraph contributes meaningfully to the overall statement. I place particular emphasis on clarity, structure, and authenticity helping you articulate your experiences in a way that is both reflective and persuasive.

My personal statement support includes:
- Building a clear structure - clear introduction, logically developed paragraphs, and a strong conclusion.
- Developing your academic narrative by linking your studies, reading, and interests to your chosen course in a focused and relevant way.
- Refining language and expression including improving clarity, conciseness, and academic tone while maintaining your individual voice.
- Strengthening reflection and analysis. This includes moving beyond description to show critical thinking, insight, and intellectual engagement.
- Editing and redrafting - providing detailed, actionable feedback and helping you refine multiple drafts where needed.
- Tailoring to course and institution by ensuring your statement aligns with what universities are looking for, particularly for competitive programmes. This includes suggestions for what experiences to include/exclude.

For postgraduate applications, I also support students in demonstrating research interests, academic direction, and readiness for advanced study. Where relevant, I help you draw on previous academic work, dissertations, or professional experience to strengthen your application.

A-LEVEL POLITICS
I specialise in teaching Edexcel and AQA A-level Politics, providing lessons designed to complement and build on what students learn in class. My approach focuses on working through the syllabus while ensuring students develop the skills needed to excel in exams. I believe the best way to master Politics at A-Level is through examples, so I create tailored example banks, demonstrating where overlaps exist and highlighting the most effective examples for each topic (and can be applicable to other topics).

In our sessions, I emphasise synoptic links to help students understand how topics connect across the syllabus - which also teaches students to revise better and more effectively. I teach essay structuring in detail, showing how to create coherent, well-argued answers. Together, we plan and break down exam questions to ensure students feel confident applying their knowledge under timed conditions. My lessons are highly interactive and practical, focusing on building critical thinking and exam-ready skills.
