About Bernie

I am a 22-year-old 2025 graduate from the University of Southampton, having obtained a Master’s degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. Alongside my academic studies, I have always been a passionate musician. I hold Grade 8 in piano and trumpet, a Diploma in singing, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music for five years. I’ve had the privilege of performing in prestigious events such as the BBC Proms and the European Music Festival with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, as well as winning awards at the Reigate and Redhill Music Festival. Music has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember, and having previously taught piano, teaching has become one of the most rewarding aspects of it. I enjoy watching students discover their musical voice and helping them grow in confidence and skill. Teaching allows me to share my love for music in a meaningful way, while helping others achieve their personal goals. I’m committed to creating a supportive and structured learning environment where students feel encouraged, motivated, and capable of achieving real progress.

About the lesson

As a passionate and experienced musician, my approach to teaching is built around structure, encouragement, and personalisation. I will tailor each lesson to suit the student's level, interests, and pace of learning, emphasising the building of a solid technical foundation, whether in piano, trumpet, or singing, while also nurturing their musical ability and confidence. I would typically offer one-hour-long lessons, although 45-minute sessions will also be available depending on the student's age and focus level. I hold a Grade 8 in both piano and trumpet, as well as a Diploma in singing. I studied at the Royal Academy of Music for five years, and I have performed at high-level events, including the BBC Proms and the European Music Festival with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. I have also enjoyed competitive success at the Reigate and Redhill Music Festival, winning both the Robert Bouffler Piano Award and the Oliphant Singing Cup for best performance in their respective categories. My experiences as both a performer and a student of music give me a deep understanding of the discipline, commitment, and joy that music study can bring. Therefore, I know firsthand what a difference the right teacher can make. I can teach beginners from Grades 1 to 5 in piano, trumpet, and singing. My lessons are suitable for children, teens, and adult beginners. Whether you're working towards an exam, aiming to improve your technique, or simply want to enjoy learning an instrument, I’ll adapt lessons to suit your goals and experience level.
