About Megan
Hi, my name is Megan, I'm a trainee Year 3 Primary School Teacher working towards my PGCE. I have a high 2:1 Ma (Hons) degree in History from the University of Edinburgh and a Masters of Research in Economic and Social History (Pass with Merit) also at Edinburgh. I chose to study history because it is something that I have always enjoyed learning about, whether it be the Vikings or the Victorians and I am training to teach because of my enjoyment of education and the positive social impact it has.
I have experience tutoring KS2/KS3/GCSE English Language/Literature. I have studied English Literature at A-Level and I continue my passion for English through teaching primary English, regular reading for pleasure, and tutoring years 2 to years 11. I have taught over 140 private sessions on the online software MyTutor.
As well as teaching and tutoring, I have worked as Education Manager at National Mining Museum Scotland where I have taught workshops ranging from STEM to History - this has inspired me to incorporate 'real world' elements into my sessions . I have previously volunteered as an English tutor too, this gave me experience online tutoring and teaching 3-1 and 2-1 sessions, therefore I am happy to tutor groups/siblings as well as individually.

I tailor my lessons to the specific needs of my student which I can ascertain after an introductory session. I have experience teaching and tutoring ages 7-16, so I will adapt to match the Curriculum and exam board (if GCSE).
I follow a routine lesson structure of a short and fun starter, a main activity centred around learning targets and a plenary which summarises and consolidates learning. I also include a short evaluation in each session so myself and my student can see areas of development and areas for improvement.
I encourage my student's love and enjoyment of reading in my sessions by including creative and hand-crafted starter activities. For these I will find various types of texts related to my students interests, expanding their contextual and literary knowledge through reading and analysing texts like: non-fiction, poetry and graphic novels.
If you would like online sessions I am happy to use Zoom or Teams - for both I encourage use of elements like the chatbox to practice written responses and use of reactions to promote engagement.
