About Helena
BA graduate in Hispanic Studies and Business with a multilingual background of English, Spanish and French. Working as a Spanish teacher in Secondary school during lockdown, I developed technological skills whilst having to teach remotely. Using online formative assessment tools such as Microsoft forms quizzes, Spiral.ac and Kahoot during live lessons via TEAMS. Teaching KS3 and KS4, working mainly with YR7s, YR8s and YR9s. My classes differed in ability sets, teaching top set in YR9, mixed ability sets in YR8, and a mix of SEN and higher groups sets in YR7. I demonstrated the ability to plan effectively, work towards deadlines and under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Apart from teaching I was responsible for Yr7 Tutor group and ensured a smooth transition from primary into secondary. I have experience teaching EAL intervention using platforms such as FLASH academy and Duolingo, working with small groups of students from different cultural backgrounds. I motivate the students by setting small targets depending on their ability and level. I have been involved in extensive MFL related CPD programmes applying the latest research based methods in the teaching of MFL, specifically using parallel texts and Gianfranco Conti style sentence builder approach which assist in embedding new language learnt in long term memory. Helena is a proficient teacher of Spanish and French. She has spent many years living in Costa Rica and Belgium (she has Belgian nationality), as well as other countries around the world. When we were at university together, studying Spanish, she was very supportive of me and our peers and was always happy to help. Helena has NQT status and teaches secondary school children. However, she adores children so I know she would be more than happy to teach younger children too. Her manner is friendly and approachable so I believe adult students would also benefit from her classes.
