About Maximilian

I have acquired over 1,000 hours of collective tutoring experience in teaching/tutoring German, Spanish, English, Maths and natural sciences over the course of my undergraduate degree in Physics at Imperial College London and during my PhD in cosmology at University College London. To tell a bit more about myself, I was born in Germany and moved to Spain at the age of three with my family. Because of this, I am fluent in German, Spanish, Catalan and English. I have also amassed hundreds of hours of language teaching experience which involved anything from beginner courses to GCSE or A-levels tutoring. Moreover, I can give English classes to second language speakers (Germans, Spanish or Catalans) who want to do a formal course. In addition, I have given tutorials at undergraduate level at University College London as a part of some mathematics and physics courses within the physics degree. About the lesson

Generally, the approach I take when teaching German is to organise and make clear what ought to be studied given the student's interests and goals. I teach all levels (from casual learners to people looking to refine their fluency), and I have experience in the preparation of standardised exams like the Goethe-Zertifikat. I use my own curriculum which I form from many sources and constantly adapt from my decade of teaching experience. I often start with teaching phonetics, since it greatly improves speaking, listening and writing skills from the beginning. I like to teach a bit of vocabulary and grammar every lesson while rounding it off with some activities. These include standard exercises, reading texts, dialogues and small games. I also encourage and recommend independent studying by recommending films, songs or challenges. Each lesson typically lasts between 1 and 1.5 hours.
