About Gemma

As an aspiring teacher with a passion for French, there is nothing I want more than an opportunity to share that with others. Studying French/Russian at the University of Glasgow, I am confident that I can reliably provide students with engaging and enjoyable lessons of a high quality. My patient personality paired with the fact that I am still a student myself makes me understanding of the challenges that come with learning a foreign language and able to share methods that can help to overcome them.

About the lesson

My lessons could be tailored to students of all levels from primary school up to the end of secondary school. I will not teach higher than this as I am still a student myself. 1 hour lessons split into four sections:

Part 1: Vocabulary learning (learning new words of a certain topic for the lesson)
Part 2: Grammar points (revising a certain tense or another grammar topic such as agreement, articles etc)
Part 3: Written practice (using the vocabulary learned combined with the grammar points to write sentences)
Part 4: Oral/listening practice (reading or listening to texts on the topic to practice pronunciation and engaging in discussion in French)

Through this plan, I aim to ensure that the four key areas to learning a language (writing, reading, speaking and listening) are tackled equally.

I am confident in my French abilities, having received an A in French at National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher and in my exams so far at university. In secondary school I have tutored children struggling in their subjects to great success as well as tutoring friends and family informally.
