About Esther
I am a 21-year-old graduate, who has spent the last three years completing a law degree at one of the best law courses in the country, UCL. Whilst the law is what I want to focus on in my future career, English is one of my key passions, and I absolutely love reading, and think it is really important for teenagers and young people to engage with it, both modern and classic. I have a younger sister who completed her GCSEs last year, and I was able to help her reach top grades, using my past materials and knowledge of the exam specifications and what examiners look for. At school, I achieved 12 9s at GCSE level, and 3 A*s at A-Level, so I really do view academia as one of my strong suits. My other personal interests lie in art, music and dance. I am also a volunteer at a domestic abuse charity.

My teaching methodology is student-centred, I am looking to identify key areas of the GCSE course that students are struggling with, and cater the lessons to meet those specific needs and interests. With English, it is really important to have discussion-based sessions, and I want to really focus on developing the student's own critical thinking skills when it comes to analysing complex texts and reading between the lines. With English Literature GCSE in particular, hitting the grade boundaries can be a formulaic exercise, and I will help the student develop their skills in close-language, structural and form analysis, context, alternative interpretations, critical viewpoints and beyond. I recommend the sessions being 1-2 hours, giving us enough time to cover the material whilst maintaining engagement and focus. I can provide any necessary materials needed for the lesson, and I still have many of my personal essays, notes and annotated texts from the GCSE course which I am happy to share. I have tutored both English and Maths before at GCSE level, and have worked with students with additional needs such as dyslexia and ADHD.
