About Jed
I have been teaching all my professional life at levels from primary to university. I have also been a published researcher of language and understand something of how language and learning go together as well as why forms of academic language can make learners feel like outsiders. All this has become part of my teaching craft that I have been privileged enough to practice all these years. Nothing gives me more joy than helping students expand their meaning making powers - powers that open doors to possibilities.

My approach to tutoring is to create a reflective environment where my students can safely share their learning concerns and start, or continue, to develop their personal and academic voices. Academic language can feel intimidating, I have an approach and tools to show how this need not be so and encourage the development of empowered and creative selves once ‘blocks’ have been identified and productive practices become the norm.
