About Dora
I used to work in international business, communicating with clients entirely in English. I worked in Canada for one year and in China for five years. Ten years ago, I joined a Chinese teacher training program and started teaching through language exchange. Over the past three years of teaching, I’ve gained extensive practical experience, helping many students start from zero to fluently communicate in Chinese, all while creating a fun and engaging learning environment. My personality is cheerful, warm, humorous, and patient. I believe learning should be enjoyable and something to look forward to.
Spiral teaching + guided learning 🩷
• Even if you’ve studied Chinese for a while, you might find locals still don’t understand you when you speak.
• It’s not that your pronunciation is bad or your grammar is wrong—it’s because you’re speaking “textbook Chinese”.
• Just like in English textbooks, the first lesson might teach “How are you? I am fine, thank you, and you?” but in real life, people rarely speak like that.
• When the textbook teaches greetings like 你好嗎？, in reality, people say “ Hello!” or just “你好!”

Course Features & Learning Goals
For beginners
• Introductory lessons to spark interest, explaining Chinese character origins, pronunciation, tones, and basic vocabulary.
For intermediate learners
• Contextual learning: review and learn new words simultaneously, with the goal of actively using Chinese.
For advanced learners
• Many Chinese words don’t have a perfect English equivalent. I use various materials to analyze subtle differences and continuously improve my own advanced English to express ideas more precisely.
