About Kate

I've been on my own Welsh journey for more than twenty years, since marrying a Cymro Cymraeg (Welsh speaking Welshman) and realising two things:
a) as his brothers both married non-Welsh speakers, how quickly the language can disappear from a family and
b) if my children were going to speak Welsh, that would be much more likely if I spoke Welsh too.
And so the journey began!
In that time, I've gained GCSE O and A levels at the top grades, done intensive spoken WLPAN courses, been interviewed on S4C as a successful learner, and then taught Welsh in Cardiff, New York and Ohio.
Teaching Welsh has always been my part-time, fun, job, my career has been as a University lecturer in human Biology, teaching medical students how everything is supposed to work, before it all falls apart! Teaching is in my DNA and now that I've taken early retirement from the body, I want to help fill students not now with love and understanding of the body, but love and appreciation of this beautiful language. I currently live in Pembrokeshire and one of the fun parts of my life now is working on my trilingualism - English, standard (understood everywhere) Welsh and Pembrokeshire (i.e dialect) Welsh ;)

About the lesson

If you've worked with apps like the owl one, only to find that you're racing through the levels but still can't speak, then I want to help you. Becoming confident building sentences and talking with others requires both the out-loud practice as well as yes, some discussion of the dreaded G word - grammar! My lessons are always a mix of both, including lots of speaking practice to integrate the new grammar and vocabulary with the previously learnt. I've taught Welsh 1:1 as well as groups in Cardiff and overseas. I'm passionate about the beauty of the Welsh language as well as truly believing that every learner wherever they get to in their Welsh journey, helps the language and the culture get ever stronger.
