About Christel
Bonjour! I'm Christel, a native French speaker, originally from Mauritius, where I grew up speaking French and English. I have lived in England since 2011 and now live in Cheshire.
I began my career as a teacher of English and French in Mauritius, and later worked as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school in England, supporting pupils of all abilities, including those with additional needs. In my current pastoral role I teach and mentor young people aged 16 to 24, so I understand how teenagers learn best and what helps them grow in confidence.
**My qualifications:**
- Higher School Certificate (Cambridge A level) including French, Mauritius
- Bachelor's degree in Theology, Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), Rome
- Master's degree in Theology, Domuni University (awarded by the Angelicum, Rome)
- NCFE CACHE Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
- Enhanced DBS certificate
I'm also a published children's author, and I love creating lively, engaging resources that make learning enjoyable. I'm patient, warm and encouraging, and I believe every student can make real progress with the right support.
Learning French with a native speaker means you hear natural, accurate French and learn the expressions French speakers really use. My aim is to help you feel confident, enjoy the language and achieve the best possible grade in your GCSE.
I look forward to meeting you. À bientôt!

Our first meeting (a free 30 minute session) is a chance for us to get to know each other. I will find out about your current level of French, your exam board, the topics you are studying at school and what you would like to achieve. We will talk about how the lessons work, agree a time that suits you, and I will answer any questions you or your parents may have. This helps me plan lessons that fit your needs exactly.
My lessons cover all four GCSE skills:
Speaking: role plays, photo card descriptions, conversation practice and pronunciation, so you feel confident and natural in your speaking exam.
Listening: authentic French audio and spoken practice to help you understand real French and pick out key details.
Reading: a range of texts, from short messages to longer passages, to build your vocabulary and comprehension.
Writing: clear, well structured answers using a variety of tenses, opinions and connectives to help you reach the higher grades. Grammar and vocabulary are built into every lesson step by step, and as the exams approach we practise with past papers.
After each lesson I can set short activities to reinforce what we have learned. I go through your work in the next lesson and give clear, encouraging feedback so you can see your progress. After a few lessons we will have a short review to look at your progress, adjust your goals and decide together (with your parents, if you are under 18) how you would like to continue.
I am available on Mondays and at weekends afternoon. If these days do not suit you, just send me a message and I will do my best to arrange a time that works for you.

I’ve known Christel for a number of years - we studied together on a Masters course where she was constantly the inspiring one in the tutorial discussions. She has taught children with much success (they always love her) in a number of different schools and is also a leader of adults in her church community, organising many projects for old and young. She has been engaged in translation work at parish level, being fluent in English and French. I have no hesitation in recommending Christel as a top-class teacher.
