About Tiarna
Hi! I'm Tiarna, I'm 22 and from Northern Ireland. I have just started my Master’s degree at Edinburgh Napier University and I graduated from Bangor University last summer. I studied French with Creative Writing and obtained a First-Class Honours as well as an Oral Distinction in French and the Dr Ben Fisher Memorial Prize for most original French dissertation.
Although I have never tutored before, I have experience with both teaching and mentoring. When I was living in France in 2017-18, I worked as an English Language Assistant for British Council where I taught English to pupils aged 4-11 in three different primary schools. As well as this, last year I worked with the Welsh Government as a Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) mentor where I worked with a small group of high school students and encouraged them to take on a language for GCSE.
I am happy to give lessons to anyone - whether you are a GCSE or an A-Level student who needs some extra help getting ready for exams or a complete beginner who just wants to learn French for fun.
My techniques, methods and lesson structure will vary greatly from person to person. However, I’d like to understand which style of learning you think suits you best - are you a visual, auditory, reading/ writing or kinaesthetic learner? Let me know!
Finally, although it is important for you as a pupil to put in the work, I would like to keep the sessions relatively informal. I want the lessons to be informative and educative, of course, but also enjoyable!
