About Ebranur

Having studied and worked in South Korea for nearly six years, I understand the language, culture, and nuances of everyday life in a way that goes beyond textbooks. My pronunciation is natural, and I can help you sound more like a native speaker while also teaching you real-life expressions and cultural insights that will make your Korean feel more authentic. Whether you're a total beginner or a serious learner, I'm here to guide you in a fun and practical way!

I first came to South Korea in 2019 on a Korean Government Scholarship and earned my degree in Mechanical Engineering from Korea University. Before that, I taught myself Korean and achieved a high TOPIK score in my home country, which allowed me to skip language school and start my degree right away. With these experiences I want to help others who are unsure about how to approach studying Korean :)

While studying in Korea, I worked in various roles, including translation, teaching foreign languages to Koreans, and giving cultural lectures to Korean primary school students. After graduating, I worked full-time as an engineer. I split my time between Japan and the UK currently.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

    Neither, actually 😄
My journey started with Korean dramas and songs like many of my students, but about 10 years ago. At first, I simply wanted to understand dramas without subtitles, so I started learning Korean as a hobby. I even used Hangul as a “secret alphabet” in my diary.

As I became more serious, I decided to study more systematically. I took the TOPIK exam twice in my home country and achieved a high score before I even landed in Korea for the first time.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that represents the culture of the language?

Definitely King Sejong the Great. I often talk about him in my lessons because he was such a visionary. He created Hangul, the Korean writing system, and supported scientific research and education during his time. I really admire people who believe in research and work toward better accessibility for everyone.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior you particularly like?

I really love Korean reaction sounds like 아이고 (Aigoo!) and 어머 (Omo!), they make the language feel much warmer and more expressive.
I also love 사투리 (saturi), which are regional dialects in Korea. Each region has its own personality and speaking style, and comparing and trying to understand them is so much fun!
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Korean truly changed my life and opened doors I didn’t expect. From receiving the Korean Government Scholarship, to studying and living in Korea with full support, and eventually starting my career in South Korea at a global company.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what helps?

Korean grammar often carries very specific emotions and nuances. At first, learners wonder, “Why does this grammar even exist?”
But once you hear it used in real situations, everything clicks. And funnily enough, when your Korean improves, you sometimes get frustrated because you realize certain expressions simply cannot be translated to English properly, and that’s also part of the beauty.
  • A valuable anecdote from your language learning journey

When I first arrived in Korea, I was already quite confident in Korean. Still, during my first semester at school, classes like math and science were surprisingly hard, not because of the content but because I had never learned those technical terms in Korean.
That’s when I realized language learning has many layers and discovering them one by one is what makes it interesting.
  • How has travel or living abroad improved your language?

Living in Korea for over six years did all the heavy lifting.
From ordering food to handling paperwork and having deep conversations, daily life pushed my Korean to grow fast. It wasn’t always easy and there was struggle and frustration too, but it helped me learn in ways textbooks never could.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

I think my biggest strength is that I still remember the learner’s perspective. I know what feels easy, what feels confusing, and why. I use materials and resources that genuinely helped me when I was learning.

I always try to include cultural context and slang, not just vocabulary and grammar. I prepare slides for each lesson and adapt them to every student’s learning style. Over time, I’ve built a solid personal archive of books, videos, and real-life examples, and I love sharing them during my classes.

If you think this learning approach fits you, I’d love to meet you in a trial class! :)
