About Marcia

Heading to Las Vegas—or simply want to feel comfortable sitting down at a poker table? I'm a female poker player who came to the game later in life, so I remember exactly how intimidating poker can seem when you're starting out—especially for women. I made every mistake in the book before learning how to study the game, improve my skills, and become a winning tournament player. I've played in the World Series of Poker every year since 2016, with numerous tournament cashes, and regularly play tournaments, tournament series, and cash games in Las Vegas and elsewhere. I also have experience playing online. My coaching is designed for beginners and newer players. I teach in a patient, practical, non-intimidating way, with an emphasis on actually understanding what you're doing at the table—not simply memorizing rules or charts. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars an hour on an advanced technical coach when you're still learning the fundamentals. I'll help you understand the game, avoid common beginner mistakes, and develop the confidence to sit down and play. Poker is more than gambling. It's a fascinating game of decision-making, attentiveness, patience, and discipline—and a great way to keep your mind engaged.

About the lesson

My lessons are for the absolute beginner who is curious about poker but doesn't know where to start. My goal is to get you comfortable enough to sit down in a live poker game—whether that's in your hometown, in Las Vegas, or anywhere else—and understand what's happening and what you should be thinking about. I keep my prices affordable, and in just 3 or 4 lessons you'll know more than I knew after my first two years of playing! We'll start with the fundamentals: • What is the object of the game? • What makes a winning hand? • What actually happens at a poker table? • What is poker "culture" and etiquette? • What is variance, and why does it matter? Then we'll move into practical strategy: • How do I know whether to "hold 'em or fold 'em"? • Why does my position at the table matter? • How much should I bet? • How much money do I need to sit down in a game? • How do I recognize different types of players? • How are cash games and tournaments different? We'll work through actual poker situations together so that you learn not just what to do, but why you're doing it. Poker is a game of skill played in an environment that also involves luck. You can't control which cards come, but you can learn to make better decisions with the cards you're dealt. We'll talk about both—the strategy and the inevitable ups and downs of the game. Lessons can be done online using an interactive classroom where we can work with cards, chips, poker-table situations, and study materials together. I provide materials you can refer to between lessons, and we'll use realistic poker scenarios to help you absorb and remember what you're learning. Most importantly, you don't need to know anything about poker before we begin. There are no "stupid questions" in my lessons. That's exactly what beginner lessons are for.
