About Sumika

Hello! I'm a native Japanese teacher from Japan, currently living in New Zealand.

Living abroad has given me firsthand experience of learning and using another language every day. I understand both the excitement and the challenges of communicating in a foreign language, which helps me support my students with patience and encouragement.

I worked in hotels, restaurants, and as a tour guide in Japan, Canada and New Zealand, where I met people from all over the world. Those experiences taught me how much I enjoy connecting with people from different cultures.

I love traveling, learning about different cultures, gardening, cooking, and spending time outdoors. I'm always excited to hear about my students' countries, interests, and experiences too!

I believe learning a language isn't about being perfect—it's about connecting with people and discovering new opportunities. I hope our lessons will feel like friendly conversations where you can learn, grow, and enjoy the journey together.

About the lesson

Whether you're a complete beginner or already speaking Japanese, I'll tailor each lesson to your level, goals, and interests.

My lessons focus on practical Japanese that you can actually use in real life. We'll improve your speaking, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar through natural conversations and interactive activities rather than just memorizing textbooks.

If you're interested, we can also explore Japanese culture, daily life, travel, food, customs, and current topics. I want our lessons to feel relaxed, enjoyable, and encouraging, so don't worry about making mistakes—they're an important part of learning!

My goal is to help you become confident using Japanese in real life situations while having fun along the way.
