About Simon

Hi! I’m a professional saxophonist with over 20 years of experience playing and teaching music. I’ve performed as a bandleader and section player in big bands, function bands, and jazz ensembles, so I know what it takes to sound great both on stage and in a practice room. I’m equally comfortable playing by ear and reading music, and I love helping students build those skills too. Whether you want to tackle your grades, learn to improvise, or play your favourite pop or jazz tunes, I’ll show you practical ways to break it all down and build your confidence step by step. I also write horn arrangements, so if you’re interested in arranging or want to understand how music fits together, I can help you with that as well. Over the years I’ve managed my own music business, so I understand the importance of discipline, good time management, and staying motivated — and I bring that supportive, organised approach to every lesson. If you struggle with lack of confidence or feel anxious about playing, don’t worry — I’ve been there too. My lessons are relaxed, friendly and encouraging. I’ll guide you through any barriers and help you enjoy making music, whatever your starting point.

My lessons are always tailored to your goals — whether you’re a complete beginner, preparing for an exam, or learning jazz improvisation just for fun. I break down complex techniques into simple, clear steps, so you build confidence quickly and actually enjoy playing. If you struggle with lack of confidence — I can help you solve that. If anxiety holds you back — I’ve been there myself, and I’ll guide you through it with patience and encouragement. Lessons are relaxed, supportive and all focused on helping you sound great and feel great too
