About Joaquin

Hello! My name is Joaquin Camacho, and I’m currently pursuing a degree in History with a concentration in Military History and a minor in Arabic at The George Washington University. I bring a strong academic background, practical experience, and a passion for teaching to every tutoring session. I speak Spanish fluently and have lived in both Colombia and the United States, which allows me to bridge cultural gaps and offer students a rich and authentic learning experience. My language skills are backed by formal study—including AP Spanish Literature and AP Spanish Language and Culture—as well as years of tutoring high school students in the U.S. and adults in Bogotá. I’ve also studied Modern Standard Arabic for four years, which has deepened my understanding of what it takes to learn a new language from the ground up. About the lesson

Target Students: High school students (grades 9–12), particularly those enrolled in Spanish I–IV, AP Spanish Language and Culture, or AP Spanish Literature. Suitable for both heritage and non-heritage learners. Teaching Method and Techniques: Communicative Language Teaching: Focus on real-life conversation and communication skills—students speak Spanish early and often. Layered Instruction: Gradual increase in complexity with lots of modeling and structured support (vocabulary warm-ups, guided practice, open-ended dialogue). Cultural Immersion: Lessons incorporate Colombian and Latin American culture and literature to make the language come alive. Formative Assessment: Frequent low-stakes quizzes, translation games, and conversational checkpoints to track progress. Differentiated Instruction: Lessons are tailored based on the student’s level, school curriculum, and learning style. I’ve taken and excelled in both AP Spanish Language and Culture and AP Spanish Literature—so I know how to help students succeed in those classes and on the exams.
