About Liam
I am a qualified teacher with over 8 years' experience working in the animation industry in Ireland with companies such as Brown Bag Films and Ink and Light. Clients I have worked with include Disney, Netflix and RTE.
I also run my own original animation channel on YouTube called 'Mad Scenes.' I believe the real joy of animation comes from creating your own characters and stories, not just being a small cog in the large machine of someone else's film or series.
The goal of these lessons will be to design and finish a 3D animation in Blender of an original character complete with modeling, rigging, texturing, sound design, compositing, effects and much more. My philosophy: finish first, improve after. You won't aim for perfection on attempt one, but repeat and refine, building real skill and enjoying the process.
With that said, my expertise is in the actual animating part of the pipeline. I was trained by the very best in the world at this craft, completing iAnimate's Feature Animation mentorship as well as multiple mentorships with animators working with studios like Pixar and DreamWorks. With this knowledge, my students will gain a solid understanding of the principles of animation and put this to practice with their own characters.

Whether you want to learn how to animate using professional rigs or create characters of your own, or even focus on hand-drawn or 2D cut-out styles, each lesson will be tailored towards your goals and specific ability. I will encourage the use of free and open-source software Blender but also work with Maya among others.
Each session strikes a balance between hands-on practice, theory, and tutorial-style modelling — so you're never just watching, and never just guessing either. You'll get the "why" behind each technique alongside the practice needed to actually make it stick.
