G major, C major, D major, and E minor form the foundation of countless popular tunes.

Understanding the structure helps you switch faster:

• G major: a full-sounding chord using the low E, B, and high E strings on frets 2–3
• C major: places fingers on frets 1, 2, and 3 across the A, D, and B strings
• D major: sits entirely within the first three frets, ideal for quick chord changes
• E minor: the easiest chord to play, perfect for building confidence

Master these shapes first, then add barre chords and seventh variations later.

Private guitar tuition in Sligo generally runs about €37/h per hour.

What you pay depends on:

• Whether you're starting from scratch or refining advanced techniques like fingerpicking or jazz improvisation
• The teacher's qualifications and experience—conservatory-trained instructors or gigging professionals may charge more
• How often you meet and whether you book single lessons or commit to a term package
• Whether you choose face-to-face tuition, video calls, or a hybrid approach

Ask about bundle deals or term discounts—they often reduce the hourly rate significantly.

Moving a minor pentatonic shape 3 frets toward the headstock reveals the major pentatonic of the same key.

Understanding the theory makes it click:

• The same five-note pattern works for both—only the root position changes.
• The notes remain the same (A, C, D, E, G), but emphasising different ones changes the feel.
• Blues players often hover between both positions to blend tension and resolution.

This single rule doubles your soloing vocabulary without extra memorisation.
