About Lena

As a person, I love meeting people from all over the world, whilst supporting them to learn English. I know how scary it can be to learn a new language and live/visit a new country, as a non-native speaker. It is daunting and I pride myself on being someone who is extremely supportive, open-minded, gentle, kind and caring, to aid in the learning process. I have been tutoring English for many years, both online and face-to-face, in Cork, Ireland and the UK. Throughout this time, I had the true pleasure of working with international students from all over the world; namely, Brazil, Chile, Spain and Italy, whom I, myself, learnt so much from. Every tutoring experience enables me to grow as a person and changes my life. I truly thrive from connecting with individuals from differing cultures and backgrounds to my own. I grew up in London and I am half English/Irish; in addition, I am qualified to teach English with a TEFL Level 5 Certificate; have an MSc in Mental Health Science and a BSc in Psychology from Portsmouth University. I adore animals and travelling, volunteering and travelling all over the world, supporting animals, children and also young people with special educational needs. After working in Central London, in marketing positions, for many years, I decided it was time to work independently; as this gives both myself and my students the freedom to choose how we work, in a way that works best for us. At the moment, I am travelling and supporting families/animals across the world. My locations will be as follows: Amsterdam, Netherlands from the 3rd of August and London, UK from the 24th of August, where I will offer face-to-face tutoring. I am open to online tutoring options, however, my preference is face-to-face.

About the lesson

I love to work collaboratively with non-native speakers, bringing together 2 or more speakers to discuss and explore their favourite topics. This could be through a combination of exciting practices, such as reading travel blogs, journaling or creative writing; discussions and deep explorative conversations about your personal journey; plus, fun and engaging games or role-play to support English speaking and listening practices. The choice is, simply, yours! Let’s learn English by delving into your passions, achievements, philosophical perspectives on life, favourite hobbies, motivations, and, pretty much, anything and everything you’d like to choose. I come from both a creative background, namely copywriting, but also a psychological background, with a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Mental Health Science from Queen Mary University in London. My aim is to combine my work to offer relaxed, exciting and creative sessions for individuals from all over the world to learn English, with ease.
