About Megan

I am a qualified teacher, currently teaching A Level Politics at a large sixth form college, where I am the sole provider of the syllabus across the entire Y12 and Y13 cohort. While I teach Edexcel, I am also familiar with AQA A Level Politics. I hold a 1:1 BA Politics from a Russell Group University where I graduated top of my year with multiple academic prizes. I also hold a UK Secondary PGCE teaching qualification on top of my Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

I have experience working in Parliament and contributing to academic research within parliamentary studies, allowing me to bring politics to life in a way a textbook cannot, and provide up to date examples and arguments.

My priority is confidence – in tutoring sessions, at school and in exams. I foster a laid back, open and affirming learning environment where students can gain confidence and feel empowered in their learning.

I work to minimise anxiety and stress about exams, and instead help students to feel confident and prepared in their knowledge and exam technique.

I have a strong revision and exam technique, and I am also experienced in developing revision methodology for students struggling with anxiety and motivation, and who feel overwhelmed. I specialise in helping students improve their essay structure, argument development and exam technique – the key skills required to move from B/C grades to A/A* at A Level.

I believe in positive feedback, affirmation and encouragement -students learn best when they feel safe, supported and encouraged. This is the environment I strive to create - grades are important but so is enthusiasm and confidence (they'll benefit you long after you've sat exams!).

Our first session will be spent working out the student's priorities and areas they lack confidence.

For many A level politics students, this is essay structure - you often have the knowledge but struggle to lay it out in a way that gets you top grades. For others, the issue is the volume of information to learn and retain.

Most students will fall somewhere in the middle – and that is why I begin by establishing what their concerns are, by speaking with the student and ideally looking at some practice essay questions or work they have already completed at school.

Once we have priorities worked out, we will begin full sessions by balancing revision of content with essay and exam question practice. There is the option of structured sessions over a term, focussing on consolidation of knowledge within each session, or specialist sessions focussing on particular problem areas. I can work either way – whichever best suits the student and their needs.

My first session is free so we can see if my approach is beneficial for the student – after that we can work out a time each week that is suitable.
