About John
I love helping people, and teaching is a personal passion. I have over 5 years of experience in linguistics and related fields. I have also been a writing consultant and university level teaching assistant for over 3 years. Finally, I have established friendships with a number of previous students that have continued long after they finished class with me. I want to help however I can, and maybe make a new friend along the way.

A common mistake people make is thinking knowing a language means you can teach it to someone else. They know rules but can't explain them. As a linguist, I have a greater understanding of the underlying rules of English, which aids in my explanations.
- I tailor my lessons to individual students. You tell me what you want to work on, and I will do my best to help you with your goals.
- We can talk conversationally, I can review and edit papers or writing, I can explain why English does weird things.
- My primary ESL experience is with late high school and college age students, as well as adults of all ages.
