About Marion
I have a BA in English and Philosophy, from the University of San Francisco; an MA in English and Writing from California State University, Los Angeles; and ABD in a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of La Verne, CA.
My education career includes not only teaching but also writing curriculum, coaching teachers, and being a Head of School for 18 years - but never once did I stop teaching! Being with my students and having fun with them as they learn is definitely my 'happy place.'
I have taught in middle school and high school, and am currently teaching in high school and college. In middle school I specialized in teaching reading comprehension and paragraph structure as well as grammar, vocabulary building, and spelling.
As a high school instructor, I have taught British literature, American literature, World literature, Introduction to Composition, Advanced Composition, and Advanced Placement English.
At each level of instruction, I have developed independent learning modules for my students so that the pace of learning is comfortable and successful. YOU, my student are the focal point and where I always start!
I have taught for over 25 years - and can't imagine not teaching! I love learning from my students as much as they love learning from me. So who am I? A person who is passionate about helping students reach their goals and learn to believe in themselves!

No matter what I tutor, my focus is always on the one individual student and his or her needs. So first I'll find out from you what you feel strong in and where you feel you need some growth. Next, I'll structure a plan WITH you to meet your needs, whether English lit and reading, writing, college prep. The action plan will include mapping out how to meet your goals successfully and in the time you have.
You are the focus point - not just the material - and I use ppts, handouts, Jam Board, interactive white board, model essays. outlines - and we move at your pace!
What sets me apart as a tutor is the connection I can make and have made for years with my students individually - no matter whether in middle school, high school, or college. Without that connection nothing works!
A typical Lesson with start with a brief chat, reviewing what we covered last time, going over your work done between session, and then presenting new material.
As one of my past students put it, "You made me believe in myself and so I learned I could write."
