About Shobana

After spending 26 years in classroom as a facilitator, I am confident that my heart is where my students are. I understand that Humanities is challenging for students. So, I make it my goal to make every lesson as relevant to the real world as possible. I believe in a positive structured classroom environment where every student is valuable and every student is equal. I always feel like I am continuing to grow as an educator, learning not only from time, experience and professional development, but also from my students. Every student has a different story and different needs, and every student offers me the opportunity to grow by finding new ways to meet their needs. Proud and humbled at the same time.

About the lesson

The communicative approach to teach English is based on the idea that learning language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning. When learners are involved in real communication, their natural strategies for language acquisition will be used, and this will allow them to learn to use the language.

Example
Practicing question forms by asking learners to find out personal information about their colleagues is an example of the communicative approach, as it involves meaningful communication.
Classroom activities guided by the communicative approach are characterized by trying to produce meaningful and real communication, at all levels. As a result there may be more emphasis on skills than systems, lessons are more learner-centered, and there may be use of authentic materials.
