About Darren

Darren R. Wong is a member of The Kinjaz from NBC's World of Dance and has been teaching, performing and choreographing in the Hip Hop community for 13 years. He has also been a part of world-renowned Hip Hop organizations such as Culture Shock LA and Kaba Modern and spent 4 years on the faculty of the Claire Trevor School School of the Arts at the University of California, Irvine as an adjunct lecturer of Breakin'. He has been sharing his experience and knowledge by teaching and training dancers of all skill levels, from college performing arts programs, dance studios and online students from around the world, how to break with the knowledge that he has been fortunate enough to gain.

Darren's goal is to share what dance has given him in his life by providing in person or online dance courses for up and coming dancers who may be intimidated or self-conscious to start dancing or do not have access to experienced teachers or a dance studio with classes that interest them around them. His courses allow both new and experienced dancers from all over the world to have access to an experienced teacher who understands the ins and outs of how to break down movements to its simplest form, so a student can confidently learn a movement with correct technique, execute them to music and piece them together to create their own combinations whenever and wherever without having to step foot into a studio.

He aspires not only to help those in his local dance community, but also dance communities worldwide who may not have direct access to the techniques and knowledge that was shared with him.

About the lesson

Whether you are brand new to Hip Hop dance and have never taken a dance class or have some experience with taking Hip Hop classes but just can't quite get the moves down or keep up, I can help you reach your dance goals.

Perhaps you have been in my student's shoes before. You want to take a Hip Hop dance class but are a little bit intimidated. You feel like you will look and feel foolish and not be able to keep up with the class. I am here to tell you that you are not alone in this feeling. Taking a class can be very intimidating! Especially if it is your first time. The skill level of a "beginner's" class can vary from dance studio to studio and you never know if you are getting a teacher who knows how to teach the way you personally learn. This is where I have come in to help my students and now you.

Here is what you can expect from our lessons together...

Our lessons together are catered specifically toward your end goal and most importantly, we will go at your own pace and you will receive corrections specific to your movement.

You will learn the basic dance movements and techniques you need to know to build a strong dance foundation so learning choreography and freestyling become easier. You will also learn small combinations or drills utilizing each new movement or technique you learn so you can put into practice what you are learning and practice them on your own

After our lesson, you will receive a video tutorial of the movements you were taught so you can refer back to it in case you forget any details

*

You will also be able to send me a video of yourself executing the movement or combination anytime before our next lesson if you want to make sure you are practicing the move correctly or simply want feedback on your progress.

If you are unable to travel to my loft then there will be a travel fee added to your lesson rate.

My travel rates are:

1-15min travel time - Free

16-30min travel time - $20

30-45min travel time - $30
