About Gillian
In my free time, I love to read crime fiction novels. I was a competitive swimmer for the majority of my life. I still enjoy swimming and thank the sport for teaching me discipline. I live in NYC and love to explore the city and go for long walks to find hidden gems. I am close with my family and love my parents' Golden Retriever!

I have found engaging and effective strategies to support students in analyzing literature and improving analytical writing.
I am skilled in breaking down ideas into digestible steps for students to consider when comprehending challenging ideas (particularly with poetry).
I leverage relationships to shape my approach to teaching to become more engaging and meet the individual needs of the student.
As a 6th grade teacher, I can help students work through a challenging text, come to a clear understanding of literature, improve reading fluency, develop paragraph writing strategies, and feel confident in their English classes at school!
Last year, 96% of the students in my class passed the ELA NY State exam as a result of my targeted teaching strategies and effective practices.
I am most experienced working with students between the ages of 10 and 14, but also have experience student-teaching ages 16-18.
